General

  • Mindful therapy combines traditional therapeutic practices with mindfulness techniques to help individuals become more present, self-aware, reduce stress, and enhance emotional well-being.

  • We provide individual therapy, family therapy, relationship therapy, group therapy, and specialized treatment for eating disorders.

  • Yes, all our therapy sessions are conducted virtually, via SimplePractice, to provide you with flexibility and convenience in accessing care from the comfort of your home.

  • Finding the right therapist is a personal journey, and it's important to consider factors like their specialties, approach, personality and communication style. We encourage having a consultation call to get a feel for their mindset and see if it aligns with your needs. Trust your instincts and choose someone you feel comfortable with to support your journey.

  • Choosing the right therapist is a personal process, as not every therapist will be the best fit for everyone. It’s normal to need a few sessions—sometimes three or four—to really determine if the connection feels right. If you find that it's not the best match for you, that's perfectly okay; you can always explore working with someone else.

  • You can schedule a session by filling out our online appointment request form to start with a free 15 minute phone consultation to find the best fit for you. You will then be connected with your therapist of choice.

  • We request that you provide at least 24 hours notice for cancellations and directly message your therapist. Rescheduling is preferred in instances of a late cancellation.

  • Our policy requires that you provide at least 24 hours notice for cancellations, or they will be considered a “late cancellation”. If the session is missed entirely it is considered a “no show”. Both result in automatic payment of $150 for senior clinicians and $120 for all other clinicians.

  • At this time we can only see clients that are physically in Virginia or Maryland. In mid 2025 we anticipate an interstate compact to allow us to see clients in any location nationwide .

Sessions

  • In your first session, we will discuss your goals for therapy, explore your current challenges, and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

  • Sessions typically last 50-55 minutes, within a 60 minute time block.

  • It is recommended that all clients start out meeting on a weekly basis for at least 4-6 weeks. After that, there can be discussions for a change in frequency to bi-weekly or monthly.

  • The number of sessions varies based on the clients needs, but for most 3-5 months of weekly sessions can foster meaningful growth. Most clients continue beyond 5 months to 1-3 years.

  • Group therapy involves a small group of individuals, 4-10 people, sharing their experiences and supporting each other under the guidance of a licensed therapist.

  • Group therapy can be beneficial if you’re looking for support, understanding, and shared experiences with others facing similar challenges.

  • Our approach to treating eating disorders focuses on holistic care, incorporating therapeutic techniques that address both the mental and emotional aspects of eating disorders.

  • Yes, our therapists have specialized training and experience in treating various eating disorders.

Insurance & Cost

  • We accept most major insurance plans. See more information here.

  • The cost of therapy sessions can vary based on your insurance plan benefits or payment arrangement. Please check with your insurance company if you owe toward a deductible or a co-payment. Also known as “cost-share”.

  • Your copayment amount can vary based on your individual insurance plan. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to determine your specific copay amount, or pay into a deductible. If a deductible is owed, your therapist can give you the payments per session.

  • For information regarding your insurance coverage, it’s best to contact your insurance provider directly and ask about your specific plan's mental health benefits. Ask about CPT code 90837 for individual, 90847 for relationship, 90853 for group.

  • We offer self-pay options and accept all major credit cards for payments, which are processed online. We also offer sliding scale fees and pro bono, to accommodate clients in need.
